EVAP System
The EVAP system captures fuel vapors and routes them to the engine to be burned.
What it does
Prevents gasoline vapors from venting directly into the atmosphere.
Failure signs
- Check engine light
- Fuel smell
- P0440, P0442, P0455, or P0456
- Hard start after fueling
- No drivability symptoms
Maintenance notes
- Check the fuel cap seal first.
- Inspect vapor hoses for cracks.
- Use smoke testing for leaks that are not visible.
