When to Tow Instead of Drive
Towing can feel expensive, but driving with the wrong symptom can turn a repairable problem into engine, brake, or safety damage.
Tow For Engine Protection
- Flashing check engine light with shaking.
- Temperature gauge in the red.
- Oil pressure warning light.
- Major coolant or oil leak.
- Loud knocking from the engine.
Tow For Safety
- Brake pedal goes to the floor.
- Steering becomes difficult or loose.
- Wheel grinding or wobbling is severe.
- Smoke, flame, or strong electrical smell appears.
- The car cannot maintain speed safely.
If You Must Move The Car
- Move only to a safer nearby location.
- Use hazard lights.
- Avoid highway speeds.
- Stop again if the warning returns or worsens.
