Thermostat

The thermostat controls when coolant begins flowing through the radiator.

What it does

Helps the engine warm up quickly and then stay near its designed operating temperature.

Failure signs

  • Engine runs cold
  • P0128 code
  • Poor cabin heat
  • Overheating if stuck closed
  • Temperature gauge moves abnormally

Maintenance notes

  • Use the correct temperature rating.
  • Bleed air from the cooling system after replacement.
  • Check coolant condition and leaks before blaming the thermostat.
