Starter Motor
The starter motor turns the engine fast enough for combustion to begin.
What it does
Uses battery power through a solenoid to crank the engine.
Failure signs
- Single click
- No crank with good battery
- Intermittent no-start
- Grinding during start
Maintenance notes
- Confirm battery and cable condition before replacing.
- Check voltage drop on power and ground circuits.
- Investigate oil leaks that may contaminate the starter.
