Starter Motor

The starter motor turns the engine fast enough for combustion to begin.

What it does

Uses battery power through a solenoid to crank the engine.

Failure signs

  • Single click
  • No crank with good battery
  • Intermittent no-start
  • Grinding during start

Maintenance notes

  • Confirm battery and cable condition before replacing.
  • Check voltage drop on power and ground circuits.
  • Investigate oil leaks that may contaminate the starter.
