Part and system guide

Brake Master Cylinder

The brake master cylinder creates hydraulic pressure when the brake pedal is pressed.

What it does

Pushes brake fluid through the hydraulic system so calipers and wheel cylinders can apply braking force.

Failure signs

  • Brake pedal sinks
  • Pedal goes to floor
  • Low or dropping fluid
  • Reduced braking
  • Brake warning light

Maintenance notes

  • Treat a sinking pedal as urgent.
  • Check for external leaks before blaming internal master cylinder bypass.
  • Use the correct brake fluid and bleeding process after hydraulic repairs.
