Battery Cables

Battery cables carry high current between the battery, starter, alternator, body, and engine ground.

What it does

Provide low-resistance power and ground paths for starting and charging.

Failure signs

  • No start
  • Single click
  • Intermittent electrical loss
  • Corroded terminals
  • Slow cranking

Maintenance notes

  • Keep terminals clean and tight.
  • Check voltage drop before replacing the starter or alternator.
  • Replace swollen, corroded, loose, or heat-damaged cable ends.
