How to Read a Repair Estimate
A clear repair estimate helps you understand the diagnosis, parts, labor, and what is being approved.
What Should Be Listed
- The customer concern or symptom.
- The diagnostic finding or test result that supports the repair.
- Parts, labor, fees, taxes, and warranty terms.
- Whether parts are OEM, aftermarket, remanufactured, or used.
Questions To Ask
- What test confirmed this part failed?
- Are there related parts that should be inspected while the system is apart?
- Is this repair urgent for safety or can it be scheduled?
- What happens if I decline or delay this repair?
Watch For Red Flags
- A code name alone is not a complete diagnosis.
- A long parts list without test results deserves clarification.
- A quote should distinguish required safety repairs from maintenance recommendations.
